North Star Hunting Beagles

Whopper is the fourth generation of this specific bloodline.  His sire is FC Buck's Branch Willie Boy; a nice young male owned by Les Blondino.  I watched Willie Boy run solo on a rabbit and was really impressed with his ability to stay in contact with the scent line while making swift progress pursuing the rabbit.  He has an honest mouth and stays with his work on difficult checks.  His dam (North Star Storm Trooper) was a very nice female out of FC Buck's Branch Kalagha and North Star Squeaky Squirt.  We lost Trooper while training in the spring of 2010; she separated from the pack and we could not find her.  We searched for days but never found her so we presume she is dead.  Whopper is approximately 6 years old now (December 2015) and has been running rabbit since he was about five months old.  Whopper has developed into a good hunting companion and I believe he will continue to improve.  Whopper is a medium speed dog, has good confirmation, searches well, and can keep the rabbit going on his own.  He has the ability to stay in contact with the scent line similar to his sire.  We ran Whopper on hare in November (2010, 2011, 2012 and 2014) in Maine and that seemed to really help in his development.  He has become the stabilizer in the brace or trio of dogs he hunts with.  At the checks (when the rabbit changes direction) he will quickly find the scent again and keep the run going.  I really like his search (ability to find a rabbit), his ability to stay with the line, and willingness to stay with a hard check and work it out.  He is medium speed, as expected with his breeding, and a good companion.  We currently have one female (Zippy) we kept from his first litter and he sired a second litter (Bandit and Bell in June 2014).  I am very pleased with all of his offspring; it demonstrates that he can reproduce as well as hunt.
